Scope
Business Opportunities in Ohio:
Heartland Agdeavor is pursuing investment opportunities that may result in businesses being located in Ohio but these will take time to develop. Ohio is new in adopting the producer investment models compared to other Midwestern states. In the future, Ohio will have the opportunity to offer value-added agricultural business investments to producers in other states.
Business Opportunities in Other States:
One result of the Heartland Agdeavor formation has been the partnering with sister organizations through the United States Ag Producers Alliance (USAPA) to present value-added agriculture investment opportunities to Ohio producers. Several Ohio producer investment opportunities have occurred in other states for three main reasons. They are:
- It takes several years to develop a value-added agricultural business opportunity. Producer organizations in other states have been organized for several years. They have had time to develop value-added agricultural business opportunities.
- Businesses need to be located where it makes the best economic sense. Certain states may have distinct advantages for specific business opportunities. A guiding principle of Heartland Agdeavor Association is that all opportunities have good probability for adequate returns on investments. To do this it is imperative that the project be located where this can be achieved.
- Heartland Agdeavor provides a structure for producer
value-added investment organizations to contact potential Ohio
producer investors.
Structured groups help businesses present investment opportunities to potential investors. Heartland provides just such a structure for interested Ohio producers.
Forward-Looking Agricultural Producers Needed:
It is Heartland's view that all Midwest producers have a vested interest in developing sound, value-added agricultural businesses. Producers in all states need to work together in making sound investments based on sound business principles regardless of the physical location of the producer or the physical location of the company.
The challenge is to develop sound businesses that deliver needed value-added products to consumers while returning fair profits to the owners of the businesses. Forward-looking, business-minded Ohio producers are needed to provide leadership in developing solid value-added agricultural business opportunities.
